Re-Design Project
This project explored pattern drafting, reconstruction, and reinterpretation, beginning with the recreation of a Yohji Yamamoto runway garment. The initial phase focused on analysing the original design and translating it into a fully drafted pattern, considering proportion, layering, and construction techniques.
Once reconstructed, the garment was reworked through a personal design approach, adapting the original structure while introducing new materials, proportions, and detailing. The project shifts from replication to reinterpretation, using the original piece as a foundation to explore form, adaptability, and material-driven construction.
Yohji Yamamoto
This project explored pattern drafting, reconstruction, and reinterpretation, beginning with the recreation of a Yohji Yamamoto runway garment. The original look featured an oversized, layered silhouette with asymmetric construction, combining volume and drape to create a sense of movement and controlled imbalance.
The initial phase focused on analysing the garment and translating it into a fully drafted pattern, considering proportion, layering, and construction techniques.
The project shifts from replication to reinterpretation, using the original garment as a foundation to explore form, adaptability, and material-driven construction.
Focuses on accuracy and technical understanding, translating a runway look into a fully realised garment through detailed pattern drafting and construction. The process required close observation of silhouette, proportion, and layered structure, reflecting the complexity of the original design.
Builds on the original garment through adaptation and transformation, reworking proportions, materials, and detailing to create a new outcome. The design reinterprets the original womenswear piece into menswear, translating its silhouette and construction into a different context while retaining an understanding of the underlying structure. It introduces a more personal approach to construction, material use, and form, shifting the piece from replication to reinterpretation.
